The Wire

Nebius (NBIS) signed a $1 billion deal this week. Its stock is down 14% today anyway, worse than the chipmakers.
Nebius signed a $1 billion, multi-year AI compute deal with Reflection AI, and its stock is still down about 14% today. The pressure has spread well past chips: CoreWeave, crypto miners like IREN and Cipher Mining, power stocks like Talen Energy and Vistra, and now New York's data-center moratorium and a Trump-Hochul clash are all weighing on the same trade.

SK Hynix (SKHY) and Samsung make almost 80% of the world's AI memory. That's why Micron (MU) and US chip stocks crashed again (July 16, 2026)
Chip stocks fell hard again on July 16: SK Hynix's US shares (SKHY) closed down 13.7%, SanDisk (SNDK) 12.6%, Western Digital (WDC) 9.2%, Micron (MU) 5.7%, even after TSMC's record quarter. The reason traces back to Korea, where Samsung and SK Hynix make close to 80% of the world's AI memory, and to China's CXMT pricing an $85.7 billion IPO the same day.

Jim Cramer blessed IBM on Monday. Tuesday was its worst day ever. Wednesday he blessed my Intel. Thursday it dropped.
Jim Cramer told viewers to buy IBM on July 13. It fell 25% the next day, the worst session in the company's history. Then he turned bearish at the bottom and has been right since. On Wednesday he called Intel his favorite stock for the fifth time since June. I own Intel. Thursday it dropped another 3.5%.

Pasqal hired a 30-year HPE executive to lead its commercial push, months into its $2 billion SPAC deal
Pasqal, the Nobel laureate's quantum computing startup, just hired a nearly 30-year HPE veteran to lead its commercial push across Europe and Asia. The hire comes months into the $2 billion SPAC merger it announced back in March, still working toward a close later this year.

TSMC beat earnings for a seventh straight quarter. The whole chip sector sold off anyway, and health care picked up the money.
TSMC beat Q2 earnings for a seventh straight quarter and raised its own 2026 capex forecast, an unusually bullish print. The semiconductor sector sold off anyway, continuing this week's memory-chip unwind, while health care, led by big earnings beats from UnitedHealth and Abbott, picked up the money instead.

Korea's president called the stock market unstable. Two days later, the Kospi crashed again (July 16, 2026)
South Korea's Kospi fell another 6.37% Thursday on a surprise Bank of Korea rate hike, two days after President Lee Jae-myung called the market unstable and blamed leveraged ETFs tracking Samsung and SK Hynix. The same week, regulators rolled out a new debt hotline after more than 320,000 accounts were forcibly liquidated this month.

SpaceX briefly fell below its IPO price today, and the revenue never supported a $2 trillion valuation
SpaceX dipped as low as around $132 on Wednesday, briefly trading below its $135 IPO price for the first time, before closing at $135.27, just pennies above it. With about $18.7 billion in revenue last year, a $2 trillion valuation was always a stretch, and Morningstar said as much before the IPO even priced.

RoboStrategy's CEO bought $10 million of new BOT stock this week, priced at more than 3 times the fund's net asset value
RoboStrategy CEO Andrew Kang bought $10 million of newly issued BOT shares in a board-approved private placement, priced at more than three times the fund's reported net asset value.

AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) sinks close to 13% after hours on its third billion-dollar note sale since October
AST SpaceMobile went back to the debt market for the third time since October, and investors kept selling into the evening, with the stock down nearly 13% after hours despite the company holding $2.7 billion in cash.

Big tech is about to spend $725 billion on AI data centers. That's not what a bubble looks like.
Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Meta are guiding to roughly $725 billion in combined AI capex for 2026, up 77% from last year. States are moving to regulate the data centers that money builds, but the real risk to watch is that spending now outpaces free cash flow.

ASML raised guidance sharply today. Wall Street barely reacted, and TSMC reports tomorrow.
ASML beat its own Q2 estimate and raised full-year 2026 guidance again, citing surging AI chip demand. The stock barely moved on the news. Since ASML builds the machines TSMC depends on, that muted reaction is worth watching heading into TSMC's own report tomorrow morning.

Only about 10 members of Congress use a blind trust. Here's why almost nobody bothers.
A blind trust sounds like the simple fix for a lawmaker owning stock while writing the laws that move it. Only about 10 sitting members of Congress actually have one. Here is what a real blind trust requires, why so few bother, and whether it even does what people think it does.

Semiconductors are having their worst day in weeks. Tomorrow, TSMC gets a chance to reverse it.
Semiconductor stocks are having their worst day in weeks, Micron, SanDisk, and SK Hynix's ADR all down double digits. TSMC reports Q2 earnings before the bell tomorrow, scores an 88 out of 100 on our Stock Scorer, and might be the one print that stops the bleeding.

Money is rotating out of semiconductor stocks and into the Mag 7 today. (July 15, 2026)
The real move Wednesday is money rotating into the Mag 7, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta are each up more than 3%. That money is coming out of semiconductor stocks, as SK Hynix's Nasdaq ADR, Micron and SanDisk all give back this week's spike.
A short seller says a third of Sivers Semiconductors' (SIVEF) revenue is dubious. Its CEO and board bought shares anyway.
A short seller says 31% of Sivers Semiconductors' 2025 revenue is dubious and Sweden is probing an information leak. Its CEO and full board bought shares anyway, right as its laser chips landed a real GlobalFoundries partnership.

Producer prices (PPI) fell in June too, a day after CPI's first drop since 2020 (July 15, 2026)
June's Producer Price Index fell 0.3%, cooler than expected and the second straight day inflation data has surprised to the downside. Energy led the drop, gasoline fell 12%, and core PPI cooled to a 5.1% annual rate.

Should you actually copy stocks bought by hedge funds, Congress, or insiders? What the data really says
Copying stocks bought by Congress, hedge funds, and company insiders all sound like easy shortcuts. Here's what the actual research says happens once you try each one, and why the delay before you see the trade matters more than people think.

The Close, July 14: IBM lost a quarter of its value, and SK Hynix's Nasdaq stock jumped 27%
IBM lost about a quarter of its value in a single session after a weak preliminary report, and the damage spread across enterprise software. SK Hynix's brand-new Nasdaq stock went the other way, jumping 27% on a day chips broadly rallied.

Bitcoin miners are becoming AI landlords. Here's how far each one has actually gotten.
Eight bitcoin miners are pitching the same AI pivot, but they're nowhere near equally far along. IREN and TeraWulf already have AI revenue flowing. Hut 8, Cipher and Applied Digital have billions in signed leases that haven't started billing yet. CleanSpark still just mines bitcoin.

SK Hynix's new Nasdaq stock rose 20% today. The same company in Seoul only gained 4%.
SK Hynix's week-old Nasdaq stock, SKHY, rose about 21% Tuesday. The company's original Seoul shares gained less than 4% the same day. The difference comes down to a very new, very thinly available ADR, and it is worth understanding before it happens with the next Korean listing.

New York froze new data centers for a year, and TeraWulf just became the day's biggest loser because of it. Nebius, close behind, has nothing to do with New York.
Governor Hochul signed a first-in-the-nation moratorium on new hyperscale data centers today, and TeraWulf (WULF) fell 6.7%, the hardest hit in the group, because it owns exactly the kind of project the order targets. Nebius (NBIS) fell almost as much, and Digital Realty (DLR) also dropped on real New York exposure, but Nebius and CoreWeave (CRWV) have nothing to do with Albany.

I let Claude AI trade $100 on Robinhood, week 3: it sold MSTR right at the low and it gapped up 6% the next morning
The AI running my $100 Robinhood account cut MicroStrategy (MSTR) at $90.93 on Monday. Tuesday morning MSTR gapped up about 6%. It drives me insane, but the deal was that Claude makes the calls, so I am letting it ride.

Inflation fell for the first time since 2020, the Kospi closed green, and IBM still crashed 23% (July 14, 2026)
June CPI fell 0.4%, the first monthly decline since 2020, and chips bounced. Then IBM missed on preliminary results, lost roughly 23%, and dragged Workday, ServiceNow and Adobe down with it. CleanSpark jumped 8% on a $6.6 billion AI data center lease, and the Kospi closed green before the CPI number even existed.

Gloo (GLOO) sells tech to churches. One of its biggest shareholders is Bill Hwang's foundation.
Grace & Mercy Foundation just bought $3 million more of Gloo (GLOO) stock, bringing its stake to about 18.6%. The foundation was founded by Bill Hwang, the Archegos founder sentenced to 18 years in prison for a fraud that cost banks $30 billion.
